Project: Transit Oriented Development Rider Survey

Location: Several stations along the Metrolink commuter rail line and the Metro subway line in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside Counties

Story: After being approached by several private developers and public agencies with questions about transit-oriented development opportunities, we selected a broad sample of transit stations including those along suburban rail lines and those along urban subway lines.  We then randomly surveyed several hundred riders to get a good understanding of their housing and vehicular wants and needs.

Results: We were able to discern actionable patterns in household composition, number of bedrooms needed, number of cars needed to park, what percentage would be interested to live near the transit station, and what percentage would actually give up a vehicle if they did live within walking distance of the station.
